MTV interview - premiere of "Uranium" video

MTV interview

MTV's Mark Goodman interviewed the band for the first ever showing of their Uranium video. This is a dated video taken from an old VHS tape and the quality is not the best. I'd like to thank Zot fan Jim Hewitt for passing this along.

There are a few spots of the interview missing, but the majority of it is intact. Randy Wayne handles most of the questions, but Bryant Simpson and Patrick Knowles get to jump in as well (Chris Stewart doesn't speak).

The entire interview runs three and a half minutes (there appears to be a bit more that was lost). The Uranium video is not included in this clip. I have a much better copy of the video that I'm in the process of digitizing.

Randy's cousin Rick here. Writing from Portland, Oregon. Had a call from Wichita Falls, Texas today asking if I knew a Randy Griest. They wanted to buy his house in Wichita Falls??? I had received a notice over the summer asking that I pay back taxes on the house...I decided to call Ken (Randy's brother in Monterry) but he had no knowledge of any house in Texas...told me that Randy lived in Medford, Oregon. ??? So I Googled Randy Griest in Wichita Falls...and listed was a Randy L. Griest...a case of mistaken identity...how they got my name and number I don't know. While looking on the net I came across this website. Zot was a cool band. I remember seeing video on MTV. Hello to Randy, Thomas, and Madison. Hope all is well...and sorry for the strange call you probably got from Ken, Randy...You should know that there are several Randy Griests roaming about...a few Rick Griest's ,too...thought our name was a little more rare. Give me a holler up in Portland sometime. Rick

The first and only time I saw the Zot video was the summer it was released. At the time I was a bartender. I saw the video at 4AM. I was floored by the video and the music. As soon as the record store openned in the morning, I bought the album. It is one of the best rock albums of the Eighties. I cannot understand why the band did not get more air time and or make a second album. At the age of sixty, I still listen to this Zot album frequently.
